Photo editing applications

Which photo editing software is right for you?

image editing softwareHave you ever watched photos of other people and wondered why these photos look so incredible compared to yours? Well it’s not because they are better photographers. It’s also not their superior equipment. The real reason those photos look that good stands behind photo editing.

Yes, that’s right! Photo editing!

In this day and age powerful photo editing software is available to almost everyone. The prices have gone down and some photo editing applications are even free. My goal here is to help you decide which editing software you should get.
Who hasn’t heard of Photoshop?Everyone knows that Photoshop is great software for editing your images, but not everyone can afford it.

Photoshop is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems. It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software. It is an industry standard for graphics professionals.

As you can see this application was designed for professional use. If you want to edit your images only to enhance them and make them look better for you, than you don’t need Photoshop.

Paint Shop Pro X2 – a cheaper alternative

For a photographer, Paint Shop Pro offers almost the same capacities as Photoshop does. Its user interface is very intuitive and easy to learn. The price of the Paint Shop Pro is significantly lower than that of Photoshop, which makes it an affordable alternative.

If you want to get more serious about image editing I would still recommend you Photoshop.
There are many resources available to help you get the most out of it.

One downside of Paint Shop Pro is also the fact that it works only on windows, whereas Photoshop also works on Mac OS.

Gimp – when you want free image editing software

Of course, not everyone wants to invest in image editing software. Fortunately, there are also free alternatives available and some are even very good. One of them is also GIMP.

GIMP is image manipulation program that is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. You can download it at www.gimp.org

So what should you get?

If you want to get serious with image editing and want to give your images that edge, then go after Photoshop. If you only want to edit some of your images and play a little with the software just to see what you can do, then get yourself a free app.
